PHOENIX is a global network of the clinical services that deliver on-scene, pre-hospital ECPR — establishing extracorporeal circulation at the scene of cardiac arrest, where minutes decide survival.
Founded on equality, transparency and scientific rigour, PHOENIX unites these services in a single, independent, collaborative forum — to share operational knowledge, harmonise definitions and quality standards, support collaborative research, and enable the safe and equitable adoption of on-scene ECPR as a standard of care. EINZ acts as the Network's secretariat, holding no vote and no power over its agenda.
Why time is the therapy
After refractory out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, survival with conventional care approaches zero. ECPR can restore perfusion when resuscitation fails — but only when the low-flow time is short. Every minute counts, and in most systems transport and in-hospital logistics exceed the therapeutic window. The logical consequence is to bring the ECMO console to the patient.

Aggregating the requirements of all services to drive fit-for-purpose equipment no single centre could commission alone.
Shared learning
A trusted, confidential forum for structured case review and the exchange of SOPs, checklists and training curricula.
Common definitions
Harmonised nomenclature, core time intervals and outcome reporting, enabling meaningful benchmarking between systems.
Collaborative research
A shared core dataset and multicentre studies that individual low-volume services cannot power alone.
Innovation & education
Access to seed funding, engineering support and mentorship for emerging programmes — through EINZ.
Advocacy
Representing the pre-hospital ECPR community towards guideline bodies, regulators and payers for equitable access.

First network meeting at the EINZ Conference 2026, Queenstown, New Zealand — ratification of the Terms of Reference and election of the first Chair.
